Jewelry repair
Gold chain repair.
Chains break at the weakest link, wear at the clasp, and kink when they tangle. Most breaks can be repaired so the join is hard to find, on fine chains and heavy ones.
When you might need it.
- A broken or stretched link
- A clasp that won't close, opens by itself, or has a weak spring
- A kink or knot that won't come out
- A chain that's too long, or a pendant that needs a different bail
What’s involved.
Joining links
Broken links are rejoined, by soldering or laser welding depending on the chain, then finished to match.
Clasps and jump rings
Worn clasps are replaced, and end rings are closed securely so the clasp doesn't pull away.
Shortening
A chain can be shortened and the clasp reattached, for necklaces and bracelets.
Care at the bench.
What we watch for when we do gold chain repair.
Planned around the link style
Rope, box, Cuban, and herringbone chains each join differently, so the repair is planned around how your chain is made.
The rest of the chain checked
A chain that breaks once often has other worn links. We check the full length and the clasp, and tell you what we find.
A clasp that suits the chain
If the clasp can't be repaired, a replacement should suit the chain's weight and how it's worn. We'll suggest options.
Preliminary pricing.
Your preliminary price range is free and comes from your photos. The final price is confirmed after we inspect the piece in hand, and no work starts until you approve it.
What affects the price
- The chain style, such as rope, box, Cuban, Figaro, or snake
- How many breaks, and whether links are missing
- Whether a new clasp is needed, and its type
- The weight and karat of the gold
If you’re mailing it in
Send all the pieces, including any links or the clasp that came off. Put them in a small sealed bag so nothing gets lost in the box.

Can a snapped snake or herringbone chain be repaired?
Sometimes. These flat, tightly built chains are harder to repair invisibly than link chains, and a kink can leave a permanent mark. We'll look at your photos and tell you what's realistic.
Can you make my chain longer?
We can add an extender or new links. Matching an exact chain style can be difficult, so we'll confirm the options with you first.
Should I send the broken pieces?
Yes. Once we've agreed on shipping, send every piece, including loose links or a clasp that came off. Small parts help us match the repair.
