Jewelry repair

Polishing and restoration.

Everyday wear leaves scratches, dents, and a dull finish. Polishing brings back the shine, and restoration goes further, repairing worn and damaged areas on older and heirloom pieces.

When you might need it.

  • Scratches, scuffs, or a dull finish
  • Small dents or a misshapen band
  • An heirloom with worn details or old repairs
  • A piece you're giving as a gift and want looking its best

What’s involved.

  1. Inspection

Stones and settings are checked first, since polishing near a loose stone can make it worse.

  2. Polishing and refinishing

Scratches are removed and the original finish restored, whether high polish, matte, or brushed.

  3. Restoration

Older pieces may need dents removed, worn areas rebuilt, or old repairs redone. We tell you what we find.

Care at the bench.

What we watch for when we do polishing and restoration.

  • Only as much as it needs

Polishing removes a little metal every time, so thin or worn pieces are polished only as much as they need.

  • Details protected

Engraving, hallmarks, and textured or matte finishes are worked around, or refinished to match the original.

  • Stones checked first

Loose stones are found and secured before polishing, not after.

Preliminary pricing.

Your preliminary price range is free and comes from your photos. The final price is confirmed after we inspect the piece in hand, and no work starts until you approve it.

What affects the price

  • The size and condition of the piece
  • The finish: high polish, matte, brushed, or textured
  • Engraving or fine detail that must be preserved
  • Any repairs found during inspection

If you’re mailing it in

Tell us if the piece has engraving or a texture you want kept exactly as it is. Heavy polishing removes a little metal, so delicate details need a lighter touch.

Common questions.

Will polishing remove engraving?

It shouldn't if it's done carefully. Shallow or worn engraving needs a light hand, and we work around it. Tell us about any engraving in your request.

Can you restore antique jewelry?

Yes, with care. Older pieces can have weak spots, old repairs, or materials that need special handling. We inspect first and explain what we recommend before doing anything.

Can every scratch be removed?

Light scratches usually can. Deep scratches and dents may need more metal removed than is wise for the piece. We'll tell you before any work.
