Jewelry repair

Clasp replacement.

A clasp is the part of a necklace or bracelet that works hardest, and when it fails the whole piece is at risk. We replace worn or broken clasps with one that suits the chain's weight and how you wear it.

When you might need it.

  • The clasp opens on its own or doesn't snap shut
  • The spring feels weak or the lever sticks
  • A box clasp has lost its tension or its safety catch
  • The clasp is missing

What’s involved.

  1. Choosing the clasp

We suggest a clasp that matches the chain's metal, size, and style, and tell you the options.

  2. Attaching

The new clasp and any jump rings are attached and closed securely.

  3. Checking the ends

The end links are checked too, since a clasp often fails because the links next to it are worn.

Preliminary pricing.

Your preliminary price range is free and comes from your photos. The final price is confirmed after we inspect the piece in hand, and no work starts until you approve it.

What affects the price

  • The type and size of clasp
  • The metal
  • Whether the end links also need repair
  • Whether a safety catch is added

If you’re mailing it in

If the clasp has come off, send it with the piece. Original parts can sometimes be repaired.

Common questions.

Can you add a safety catch?

On many box clasps and bracelets, yes. We'll tell you if your piece can take one.

Can I choose a stronger clasp?

Yes. For heavier chains a sturdier lobster or box clasp is often the better choice.
